Jan 2016 - Mar 2016
In the first half of the spring term our learning focussed on ‘Houses and Homes’. We looked at and talked about different types of homes including flats, houses, caravans, castles, tents, boats and igloos. The children enjoyed using the role-play home corner. We investigated different materials, decorating tools and many different designs of wallpaper, paint colours and shades. The children explored with colour mixing. We used the story of ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ as a stimulus for activities to compare sizes and also to make a new chair for Baby Bear. We talked about moving house and the children shared their experiences. We set up an Estate Agent in Nursery to encourage the children to be customers and agents. During story times we looked at the different houses in a number of Traditional tales. Book week focussed on ‘A Squash and a Squeeze’ by Julia Donaldson; the children enjoyed joining in with this rhyming and repetitive story and acting it out.
After half term our theme has been ‘Growing’. The children brought baby photos in to Nursery so that we could see how they had grown and changed. We had a visit from a parent with her new baby and as a result we made teddy bear mobiles. The children have talked about what they would like to be when they grow up. This week we are expecting a visit from the ‘Farm on Wheels’ and the children will meet some baby animals.
After Easter we will be continuing with the theme of ‘Growing’ by exploring Life Cycles and seeds.
