Jan 2016 - Mar 2016
Our spring term started with the topic Houses and Homes. The children worked in teams to build models of houses exploring a variety of materials and techniques. Children wrote about their own houses and how they would like to decorate them! They explored creating different tones by mixing colours.
Our second topic was called Growing and we focused on similarities and differences between ourselves and others and how we have changed since we were born. This led on to looking at animals and their babies and the children really enjoyed a visit from the Farm on Wheels.
We have continued with our Busy Ants maths and the children have enjoyed using their skills to estimate and solve problems for example taking part in our Estimation Station Challenges.
Our RWI skills have been feeding into other writing opportunities across the cotinuous provision. The children are beginning to work on sentence structure and to use conjunctions in their writing. Some children have been supported by participating in small intervention groups.
The children are enjoying guided reading sessions and are decoding using phonics, reading some common irregular words and are demonstrating understanding about what they have read.
Next term we are looking forward to learning all about Summer including life cycles, seeds and plants and the Olympics.
