Year 6 have begun the new year eager to learn and to take on the challenges of the new curriculum. We are continuing to use the Busy Ant maths scheme as well as looking at other opportunities to apply our skills. In our Science lessons we are exploring electricity and how different circuits work.We have been following a unit of work in Literacy and Language based in 1930’s Britain and so have taken this through to history learning by asking ‘How has Britain changed since the 1930’s?’ The children are thoroughly enjoying our class reader – Goodnight Mr Tom – which is giving them lots more insight into Britain during World War II – the children have created historical reports, diary entries and letters home from this. The year 6 residential moved to earlier in the year this time and the children enjoyed challenging themselves to new activities and gelling together as a team. Upon returning to school, the children wrote visitor guides to Chasewater, those who didn’t go wrote a ‘Visit Wales’ guide.
