Jan 2016 - Mar 2016
Year 6 have spent most of the Spring term studying ‘The Hunger Games’, which was initially the class reader based on it being a modern/futuristic comparison to the Literacy and Language Unit ‘Robin Hood and the Golden Arrow’. The children enjoyed both texts and produced some pleasing work! Alongside our English we have been busy revising different aspects of Reading and Grammar, in preparation for the upcoming SATs tests. All children have purchased the revision books and they regularly reassure us that they are busy revising at home! In Maths we have introduced the daily arithmetic questions, which has been very successful in consolidating arithmetic methods and has improved scores for calculations involving the four operations. We have been revising busily in Maths too, ensuring that we cover all aspects of the curriculum. There has been limited time for cross-curricular topic due to revision constraints, so we intend to make this a focus for the summer term, once SATs are over. We will be studying Brazil, looking at all aspects including Geography and History. In the two week s that follow SATs we intend to do a mini topic ‘Fit Fortnight’, which will have a Maths, Science and PE focus!
