Writing Challenge

Air Hotel 3000

It is the year 3000, and the new Air Hotel 3000 is embarking on its maiden trip.

Choose one of the writing tasks below to complete

1. Write an advertisement for this new type of hotel? It could be in the form of a poster or a leaflet.

2. Write a newspaper article reporting on its first outing, perhaps interviewing some of the passengers on board.

You will need to think about:

  • The features this hotel might have
  • How it is similar/different to holidays we go on today?
  • How many people might be able to travel on the Air Hotel 3000
  • Who is flying it? How might it be controlled and powered?
  • Where might it travel to?
  • Who might travel on it?
  • How much might it cost?

Space related Maths

Here's your flashback four to warm up:

Investigating and comparing the temperature of the planets

Space travel and your belongings

You are going on a spaceship and can only take 10 things with you. What will you take? Either write or draw them in your suitcase.

You are going to meet some aliens on another planet. What 10 things would you take as presents for them? Draw them in a gift box.

LIfe in Space

What would it be like to live in space on one of the many space stations that are orbiting our planet?

Your challenge today is to research what life would be like if you lived on a space station. How would you do every-day activities such as brush your teeth, wash your hair, eat or sleep? (I'm sure there are many more examples that you can think of.)

There are some fantastic clips on Youtube that show you about different aspects of life in space that you may want to check out to help your research. (You will find a few examples of those clips on the links below.)

You can choose how to present your work. For example, you could create a powerpoint, a poster or an information booklet.

Be informative, be creative!

Try to use the sentence types we have worked on in class to make your story more engaging for the reader.

After you have completed the story choose at least two other activities on the worksheet to complete.

Singing Hands

Mrs Ward and Mrs Whiston have been so impressed with the videos of your sign language learning yesterday. What an amazing skill to have!

We thought you might like to develop your skill further by having a go at learning a song using Makaton.

We would love to see any videos you would like to show us.

Monday 27th April 2020

Mrs Ward and Mrs Whiston lost track of the days last week and forgot to give you your new spellings, so here they are.

Monday 27th April

Hello year 5, welcome to another week of home learning. Keep up all the great work you've been doing so far, and do remember to keep in touch with us via emails...we love hearing from you and knowing that you are safe, happy and OK.

We have set a maths investigation today. But you can begin with the flashback four:

Numbers investigation: complete your working out on a sheet of paper to show your proof... you will need more than one example for each statement to prove whether you think the statement is right or wrong.

Challenge: Learn a new skill

Now we have more time on our hands, why not use some of it to learn a new skill? Here is a video introducing basic British Sign Language and the alphabet. Can you learn to sign your name?
